Shannon: Ultramarathon Runner
Shannon has a passion for endurance running and for the mental health field. She is an ultramarathon runner, focusing on 50-100+ mile races. Both physical and mental toughness are needed in the sport of ultra running, which is one of several reasons why she loves the sport. She strives to seek limits and boundaries, and then puzzles her way to overcome them. She likes to assist and encourage others to do the same in their lives, even if it is not fitness related.
After Shannon completed her first trail marathon, she became hooked on running. Running is multiple things, a way to stay fit and active, has an awesome community of people to connect with, a way to relieve stress, and a way to grow the human spirit. When she discovered ultramarathons, she immediately knew that that is what she wanted to do. The JFK 50 Miler in Virginia, was her first ultramarathon. Ultra race after ultra race followed. The wildest dream that she is chasing is to complete the Badwater Ultra Cup. Three wicked events in the same year: Badwater Cape Fear, Badwater Salton Sea, and The World’s Toughest Footrace, Badwater 135. Her list of race goals certainly do not end there!
How I use BTC: "MY VEGAN DIET IS IMPORTANT TO ME, AND SO IS THE PROPER FUELING FOR PREVAILING IN TRAINING, RACING AND RECOVERY. BTC BARS ARE A PART OF MY FUELING, PROVIDING ME WITH ENERGY AND CALORIES FROM HIGH QUALITY INGREDIENTS. MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT THE BARS ARE THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT FLAVOR OPTIONS, THEY ARE GMO FREE, AND OF COURSE, THE NATURAL CAFFEINE. I MOSTLY USE BTC BARS PRE-WORKOUT, AS I GET IN THE MINDSET OF ‘TIME TO GRIND,’ EATING ABOUT HALF OF A BAR. DURING THE WORKOUT, I EAT THE OTHER HALF. THE BARS PROVIDE A NICE BOOST DURING CROSS TRAINING (CROSSFIT), BUT ALSO MID TRAIL RUN. TRAIL RUNNING IS DEMANDING ON THE BODY AND REQUIRES PROPER FUELING WHEN GRINDING LONG DISTANCES. BTC BARS ALSO COME IN HANDY WHILE TRAVELING TO AND FROM TRAINING AND EVENTS.
DESPITE BEING PREGNANT, I AM STILL CONSUMING BTC, WITH MODERATION, AND DOCTOR APPROVAL.
There are days where I think BTC saves me from crashing (pregnancy is SO EXHAUSTING). half of a bar gives me enough energy to make it to the gym and I'll either eat it as I go (depending on the workout) or I'll finish it on the drive home. Getting the energy to hit the gym is crucial, it makes getting in a workout easier, which is very important for me and baby. ”
